Sizzling in Scottsdale

Okay, here goes! I am overcoming perfectionism and executive dysfunction and getting back to updating my blog after... a really long time.

Today I performed at a Mexican restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale celebrating Mike's 80th Birthday. I gave myself just enough time to get ready but as I was leaving, I realized I forgot to park in the shade so it was quite a warm ride over there (it was showing113° on my car's temperature gauge).

Then I got a panicked call from the entertainment company asking if I was almost there. The lady who set up the gig said people were leaving... they thought I was going to be there at 2:00pm! I texted her saying I was about 10 minutes away. I wasn't sure where to park and was already feeling pressured for time, so I parked at an open spot which happened to be a block away. Melting ensues. 🫠

I get to the restaurant and the lady is outside and ecstatic to see me. She tells me I look gorgeous and leads me into the restaurant's main dining area where the man and 20 or 30 of his family and friends are expectantly waiting. It looked like an authentic Mexican tavern and it was freaking hot! I try to discreetly wipe away my upper lip sweat and tell the man my that I knew it was his birthday, but I wasn't expecting him to be so handsome and tittered about hoping I remembered my lines. I always add this part because of past experience where my mind goes blank when I'm singing. 😆

And it's a good thing I did because in the third verse of my second song, the two ladies that set up the gig sat on either side of him and it distracted me enough to make the words go *poof* in my head. So I say, oh he's just too handsome, I forgot my lines! I picked it up pretty quickly after that but it's always a little embarrassing. 😅

After the two songs and happy birthday, I kiss him on the cheek and we pose for pictures. I've started bringing my adorable retro looking Instax instant camera which people just love. It's a perfect way to give someone a physical memento of the experience. I posed for pictures with everyone else and everyone was so kind, saying I did a great job. The two ladies that booked the gig ended up giving me a hefty tip, which is always nice! Overall, it was a great gig and gosh, it feels good to get back to blogging about my lil side hustle. 😍

Thank you for reading. I really do appreciate you going on this journey with me. ❤️
